Italian Company Agrorobotica won the innovation award at SMAU 2018 exhibition for their SpyFly instrument that traps and accurately monitors the presence and type of insect pests. See Agrorobotica pdf brochure and Company projects.
Pests are attracted by pheromones, trapped, their presence identified and using algorithms, an alert at predetermined intervals, together with information on surrounding field conditions and weather, is transmitted in real time via smart phone to the grower. The grower can consult the data held by this solar powered instrument at any time via the appropriate App. providing an ongoing picture of the evolution of an infestation.
The timeliness and accuracy of the information available allows much greater efficiency of grower interventions with respect to the selectivity of control measures applied in terms of timing, substance and quantities. These advantages also mitigate in the control of viral and bacterial diseases transmitted by insects, Xylella being a case in point. Agrorobotica was established by Andrea Sozzi Sabatini in collaboration with the Santa Chiara Laboratory at the University of Siena.
The next edition of SMAU will take place at Fieramilanocity, 22 – 24 October 2020. Its focus is on innovation and technology at the service of Italian enterprises and organizes road shows to promote innovative products and start-ups. Note the exhibition’s close involvement with innovation and start-ups through the Mind The Bridge organization.
